Life's Decisions and Speed Bumps

Life is a choice. How we live our life is based on millions of decisions that are made on a moment to moment bases. Have you ever thought of how many decisions you can make even in an hours time? I never really thought about it before until I bought a house a couple of years ago that needed an extensive total remodel. I was on site everyday and making so many decisions that my brain ached by the end of each day.

I am the type of person that is very decisive even when it comes to making life changing decisions or large purchases. I have always went inside of myself, into my inner-knowing or intuition. If it feels right or fantastic than I immediately know that the answer is yes. If it is something that I need to think about or something just doesn't seem right than I know instantly that the answer is going to be no (even if I want it to be yes!).

How did I develop this? I have always had this inside of me but as I got older, made some pretty good “bad” decisions, I learned how to fine tune this by listening to what immediately came to mind. I do have to give credit to my spirituality for this great gift. I believe that God wants the absolute best for me and that He would never steer me in the wrong direction.

Sometimes, there are detours and lessons are learned in this journey that we call life. To me, these are speed bumps. Some speed bumps are high that we can see up ahead and run a little faster to fly over them. Some are hidden deep pot holes that we sometimes get lost in and can't see our way out of for a time. We muck around in them for a bit, learn what we need to learn, make the decision to change what we need to change, climb out and dust ourselves off.

I have always thought that how a person gets over the speed bumps is how well they do in life. If someone acknowledges that they went through a really crappy period of time but are still glad that they had the experience, are not bitter or regretful and look forward to everything that life has to offer, than I would say they are doing pretty darn good.

We all need to be constantly sharpened by God.  This parable may encourage you to know that you are a special person, with unique talents and abilities.  Only you can fulfill the purpose which you were born to accomplish.  Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot be changed, and like the pencil, always remember that the most important part of who you are, is what's inside of you and then allow yourself to be guided.

Today, more than ever, I feel that people are more accepting of our differences either personality or culture wise. Have you ever tried fitting a square into a peg hole? It doesn’t work very well unless you whittle it away by taking pieces and parts away to get it to fit.

This is what has happened to my personality before when I have tried to fit into something that I am not. Pieces and parts of me that I love like my funky sense of humor, being very open and laughing my head off don’t fully shine through when I am not being my authentic self.

Have I been criticized before for who I am? Yes, I have. At the time, I was married and cared very much about what this person thought of me. I tried to bend myself to the idea he gave me of who I should be. As I went down this road, nothing I seemed to do mattered and more restrictions were placed on me as to whom I should be. I became frustrated and angry. I was being controlled through my unconditional love.

Needless to say, the relationship came to an abrupt end. I was devastated but now that I look back, I understand that it was the best thing that could have happened for me.

I don’t regret the relationship because I got to experience a lot of things both good and bad. I know now that if someone doesn’t like me for who I am, I hit the road and don’t even glance backwards.

This is the main reason why I became a life coach. As I was looking to get help through my separation and divorce, I went to a lot of groups. I met a lot of amazing people in different stages of their process. A common recurring theme that I kept hearing and seeing is that years after being divorced, they were still hurting and very bitter. I decided that was not going to be me.

I did the work that I need to do for my process and decided that I wanted to help people like that as best that I could through my experiences.

Just remember that you are beautiful and perfect the way you are. By bending yourself to fit into some other person’s idea of who you should be, whether in a relationship, career or family life, is taking away your very essence and the reason for your being. 

Who do you want to be, your authentic self or someone else?

As I write this all kinds of crazy stuff in happening in the world. I try not to let this affect me but sometimes some of it leaks through. It makes me wonder what could I do differently in my life that would affect others in a positive way that I have everyday contact with or even someone who lives on the other side of the world? My answer to this turned out to be something very simple that created tremendous joy in my life while I was putting it together.

Life coaching is a great vehicle to get clarity on an issue that you may be having and to propel you forward. Some of the people that I coach have never had a session before and are not sure what to expect.

Before you book an appointment here at e3 Your Life, you will have a chance to speak to a coach to make sure that you both are a good fit. At this time, it is best to ask any questions you may have about how the session works.

When your appointment is booked, we will send you a short questionnaire to fill out. It is very important that you answer all questions as honestly as possible. This session is for you and judgment free.

The coaching call should take place in a quiet space where you will not be interrupted. Before the call it is best to clear your mind of any clutter. Some people do this by deep breathing, meditation or prayer.

Most people have an intention or two of something that they want to work on. Do not have your mind set on a specific outcome or filter what comes to mind. Be open and in the mystery of what happens on the call.

At the end of each session a task will be set to move you forward. Be willing to do the work after the session. Sometimes this is not a pleasant thing to face but if you do the work required and are open to change, the possibilities are endless!

People wrongly assume life coaching is telling people what to do. I can assure you that is not the case – at all. Life coaching gives people a safe environment to talk about their issues and not be judged by the person at the other end.

The coach’s job is to move them through their issue with powerful questions, listen to the spoken and unspoken answers and leave them with more than they came in with. More what you ask? Really the possibilities are endless on what more could mean for each individual person, more understanding, more clarity, more action toward the issue, etc.

E3 Your Life came from a brainstorming session. When I start a new adventure, I always ask close friends and family their opinion around a few possibilities of names I have chosen. The original name that I knew that I wanted to use was Empower, Enrich, Embrace Your Life. I knew that this was too long for a website address but I felt a strong need to keep these three e words in place to really convey to people what life coaching could possibly do for them. A close friend suggested e3 and I knew it was a winner! It sounded great with Your Life and we could work in the Empower, Enrich and Embrace as an explanation as to what it meant.

Being a coach has really changed my life. My mission is to share all that I have learned on this journey to better help those in need to empower, enrich and embrace their life like I have!
